August in Instagram

It’s vacation time! Woohoo! I feel like I’ve  been waiting for this all summer and it’s finally here. I don’t usually do scheduled posts, but I didn’t want to miss out on an August Recap! When this posts we will hopefully be having a glorious time at a Wedding in Vancouver. Here’s what we got up to this month:

1. I’m always cooking (or at least it feels that way!) This recipe was fantastic! Paleo pork burgers topped with yam noodles. You can NEVER go wrong with yam noodles. I also made yam chips by deep frying yams in bacon fat. Yum!
2. I already posted about Color Me Rad, but it was seriously fun!
3. I went out to Columbia Lake and hung out with my folks. I love that spot.
4. N was away for a few weeks. I hated it, so we went for brunch at one of my favourite restaurants, Ox and Angela, to celebrate his return.
5. We went backpacking along Lake Minnewanka with some friends. We ran into bears and it was terrifying, but we made it out alive. It was a fun trip overall!
6. We experimented with a new paleo crust from one of my new cookbooks, Gather. It was delicious.
7. Fitness Friday is still happening every Friday. It makes me incredibly happy to see how much stronger all these people are getting. Our little group is growing and it’s amazing!
8. We hiked Grizzly Peak with T. It was a wonderful way to spend a sunny Saturday.
9. Mom treated me to a manicure and my first pedicure. I could definitely get addicted to having pretty nails!

Enjoy the long weekend! Excuse me while I dance the night away! We’ll be on the road tomorrow exploring the Pacific Coast Highway on our way to Portland. I can’t wait!

July In Instagram

Summer is by far my favourite season and it always seems to just fly by. It’s already half over and it feel like it only just began. We’ve got lots planned for August and September, but not nearly as much as we did for July. I’m kind of excited to just slow down a bit and enjoy this season. I’m looking forward to sitting outside on patios, having barbeques with friends, and enjoying the long days before they’re gone.

The end of this month has felt slightly out of control. Anyone who knows me know that I’m not a fan of feeling out of control. Work has been full of deadlines, I’ve been trying to cram long runs into already hectic weekends, and N has been away for work. I think the last one has been making life feel particularly hectic. N and I are a pretty good team and he’s been in Northern Saskatchewan for work since July 25. He’s there for at least another week. It reminds me of when we did long distance, except at the time I was used to doing everything on my own and now I’ve been spoiled by having the extra help. Anyway, it’s only another week so we’re almost back to everyday life.

Here’s what I got up to this month:
1. Started off July with a long weekend at the lake. Nothing more relaxing.
2. Stampede Parade kicked off one of my favourite weeks in the city! Enjoying the parade with my lovely co-worker.
3. Camping in Drumheller. The sunsets on the hills are unreal.
4. Spaghetti Western 2012: L and I enjoying our company party and the awesome sillybooth.
5. Weekend at Columbia Lake with N and some great friends for my birthday. D and I look related and it’s really weird.
6. Nothing beats a calm, hot day on the lake. Seriously.
7. Folk Festing. I finally attended a full day at CFMF. It was full of great music and shenanigans.
8. D and I in the beer gardens at Folk Fest.
9. I finally got my last wisdom tooth out. And I bit the bullet and did the ombre thing. Turns out I love it!

Here’s to a wonderful, hot, sunny, dry rest of the summer! Happy Long Weekend, everyone!

June in Instagram

I have been seriously neglecting this blog lately. I’ve taken so many photos and planned so many posts, but it just hasn’t come together for me when it comes to actually sitting and blogging. I’m even a few days behind on my Instagram recap here!
Calgary was recently hit with some major flooding. It was unbelievable. I never thought it was possible for so much of the city to end up underwater. Luckily, we live up a huge hill (as do most of our friends) so we were virtually unaffected. Instead we volunteered our time to the families who were and I’m so proud of our city for coming together in such awesome ways.
I have some flood pictures so let’s move on to the recap. I’m sure we’ll be talking about the Alberta Flood for a long time, but there were so many other great things that happened in June so I’m going to focus on those for now.

1. We kicked off the month by climbing Ha Ling Peak. It was great start to the hiking season and I really hope it continues. There are so many great hikes in the area and sometimes there’s really nothing better than standing on top of mountain.
2. Fiasco Gelato opened a pop-up in the Bridgeland Market near our place. They gave out free scoops, so of course we had to check it out.
3. N and I celebrated 4 years together this month. We had a fantastic dinner at Cucina. I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant or about this amazing guy I’m with. Happy Anniversary!
4. Stumptown Coffee has opened up at Luke’s Drug Mart. It’s a stone’s throw from our house so it’s quickly becoming a Saturday ritual to stop in for some coffee and a treat.
5. The burpee challenge went on throughout June. I don’t love burpees. No one loves burpees. I hope I at least inspired some people to move a little bit more.
6. The flood. The photos are unreal, the damage is heartbreaking, the way the city came together is so inspiring. #CalgaryStrong.
7. I’ve been hanging out at Mission Fitness once a week, doing CrossFit. We did rope climbs last week and I loved it. (Obviously!)
8. Flood party with my Liver. She’s pretty freaking awesome. We played an #calgaryflooddrinkinggame cuz we’re…terrible people.
9. We spent the long weekend out at the lake with my parents. Lots of sun, boating, and wake boarding. I can’t get enough of it and am definitely disappointed to be back.

Alright, summer. Let’s do this. I’m more than ready for July, Stampede, my birthday, and all the awesome that comes with my favourite month!

May in Instagram

It’s already June? How did that happen? Apparently, I haven’t been very on the ball so far this month seeing as this recap is happening five days into June. Whoops!
It feels like we got up to a lot this month. We finished out month of Paleo and no drinking (although not entirely free of grains or drinks) so we’re back to enjoying drinks from time to time and have added cheese back into our diets. We still are trying to eat primally most of the time, but we’re certainly not overly strict. Story of our lives. Enough about what I eat though. As if I don’t talk about it enough on here. On to the Instagram Recap!

1. We started the month with a pizza date at Una before heading to Cirque du Soleil with my parents. Totally delicious and totally not following our supposed paleo plan. Oh well!
2. Lobsters with N’s family while his brother was in town. I’d never put one into the pot so we had to capture the moment.
3. I spent three days down at the geoConvention for work. This bird was blind in one eye, but he made for a lovely hat.
4. Treating ourselves to Peters’ milkshakes after hunting for my unjustly towed car.
5. It was N’s birthday this month and I made him this paleo smoked salmon eggs benedict (as mentioned). I’m pretty proud of it.
6. We went out to the lake for N’s birthday and even though the weather wasn’t spectacular, it’s one of my favourite places to be.
7. We had a party at our place for N’s birthday. It was a gong show.
8. Cheering at the Calgary Marathon and Half Marathon. It was a lovely day with lovely people!
9. I’ve been doing CrossFit in the park for the last few weeks. It’s been really fun and one of the coaches sometimes takes pictures. These were burpee broad jumps.

April in Instagram

While other places can bet that spring will actually begin in March, we’re not so lucky in Calgary. Spring definitely does not begin until much later for us. Sometimes it doesn’t even show up much in April. That was the case this year. We had a few warmer days, but we also had more snowfall than I was anticipating.

I’m hoping for many spring days in May though. I’m more than ready to put my tights and winter coats away until November. (Who am I kidding, it’ll snow in October for sure!)

This month was full of cooking, baking, and hanging out at home watching Netflix. We just got Netflix and literally watched Seasons 2-4 of Prison Break in about a week.

Early this month, we decided to go back to strict Paleo and take time off drinking so we were pretty anti-social. We’ve slipped up a few times though. We’re doing it more so for our budget than for health-reasons, so I’ve definitely had some wine at work events and so has N. We’re continuing with this until his birthday on May long and then after that I hope to continue with saving money by not going out for dinners and drinks so often. We’re great at packing a lunch every day, but the minute friends suggest beers at the pub down the street we’re on it like white on rice.

Alright, enough talk about Paleo and on to this month’s Instagram recap.

1. At the first sign of warmer weather, we hit up Village Ice Cream (before this Paleo month) for a delicious treat. If you’ve never had Village’s Salted Caramel Ice Cream, stop what you’re doing and get over there now. I’m serious.
2. We enjoyed a delicious potluck with friends. I love nights like this. Catching up with friends and eating delicious food are two of my favourite pastimes.
3. Flames games with the boy! We were lucky enough to be able to take advantage of my parents tickets a few times this year. Hockey is so great up close!
4. One of our slip ups for a friend’s birthday: Centurion and CPU pizza. I felt awesome the next day, but it was a fun night anyway.
5. All dressed up in work colours for an event. I love dresses for work.
6. Fitness Friday is still going strong. I’m so excited about it. A friend of mine from Montreal was even inspired to start it at her office!
7. Another little cheat. Friday night walk to Boogies for milkshakes and hanging out on the ridge in Crescent Heights. This is one of my favourite places in our neighbourhood!
8. We decided to check out Wreck City on the final night. It was a really cool event. We got to hang out in this infinite pot room, crawl through forests, and cross over lava. My inner tomboy was in heaven!
9. Since we haven’t been going out much or drinking, I’ve been baking a ton. This was my second batch of Paleo Banana Bread. It’s so easy to make that I’m pretty sure it will become a staple in our house. Not to mention, Banana Bread French Toast is a great weekend brunch. God, I love brunch.

Hope everyone else had a great April! Bring on spring, May! I painted my toes the other day so I’m so ready for sandals and peep toes!

March in Instagram

Spring seems to finally arrived in Calgary and I couldn’t be more excited. Of course, it’s supposed to snow tomorrow, but until then I will enjoy every last ounce of sunshine that I can! H & I went for a gorgeous run at lunch and N and I plan on meeting up at the delicious Village Ice Cream after work.

April is here and I hope she doesn’t have many showers for us! March was filled with CrossFit Open Work Outs (I bet you didn’t see that one coming), delicious Big Taste meals, fun nights with friends, and lots of Fitness! I’m trying out a different way of sharing this month’s photos, so we’ll see how I like this. Here’s what we got up to in March.

1. We started off the month with a pretty big snowstorm. Luckily it was on a Sunday so it didn’t bring the city to a grinding halt and I went out frolicking thanks to my AWD!
2. Fitness Fridays have continued. We’ve recruited a few more and have been keeping things interesting every week. I love seeing new faces come out!
3. D and I at Wurst for Z’s birthday. As always, it was a great time. Who doesn’t like 1L beers and beer hall style tables.
4. Big Taste is one of the best weeks for dining in Calgary. $35 set menu at 70 different restaurants in Calgary? Mom, Dad, N, and I went to Charcut this year. By far one of my favourite restaurants!
5. The girls at CrossFit Airdrie talked me into doing the Open and I’m so glad that they did. It’s been such a great experience. I’ve seen such improvement in my lifts and confidence and am so humbled by the amazing CrossFit athletes all around the world.
6. H, N, and I headed out to Lake Louise for once last day of skiing this season. Gorgeous snow and great company!
7. Saturday Coffee Dates are just the best!
8. It’s been warm enough for bare legs lately. I’ve been busting out the dresses and booties at every opportunity. I’m so ready for Spring!
9. Stars put on another great show last weekend. I’ve seen them four times and this was by far my favourite show. Thanks for the amazing night, Stars!
Tomorrow they announce the last CrossFit Open WOD. I’m both excited and sad for these weekly workouts to end. N very kindly came out to Airdrie with me on Sunday to take some photos, so I’ll hopefully be posting those soon. I make some pretty awesome faces when I work out!
We’re planning on cutting back on a few things this month, so cross your fingers for beautiful weather so we can spend out time outside and maintain some type of social life!
What did you get up to this month? Anything exciting planned for April?

February in Instagram

It’s that time again: Monthly Instagram Recap!

Follow me on Instagram @whoalansi

February was a short, action-packed month. We seemed to have something going on every weekend. Here’s a snapshot of what we got up to.
1. A Superbowl weekend full of food: Girls Night Fondue Party, Brunch at Brasserie, and Superbowl at H’s parents’ house.
2. Some gifted clothes from D. Feels like I went shopping!
3. Made my parents a delicious, and mostly paleo, meal.
4. I finally found a maxi skirt that I like! Thanks, F21!
5. Drinks with my Valentine at National, followed by dinner at Ox & Angela.
6. Panorama with a little Bird.
7. Lazy Sunday walk on the lake with some swimming ladies.
8. Amazing lunch date at MARKET with H & D.
9. Catching up with old friends over fried chicken & waffles at Model Milk.

Big Taste is this week in Calgary and I’m really excited.”Calgary’s chefs are meeting foodie demands with new culinary creations, multi-course meals and set-menu dining just for the Big Taste. It only lasts for 10 days, so book your tables and bring your appetite.” (Downtown Calgary). There are 70 restaurants participating this year and I’ve planned downtownfood for lunch on Wednesday and Charcut with my family on Saturday night.

Ski season is wrapping up relatively soon and our next day is free, so I’m hoping we can get out this weekend or something. I don’t understand how this season went by so quickly. I really can’t complain about this winter at all.

How was your February? Anything exciting on the horizon for March?

January in Instagram

January seems to have flown by. Maybe I’m just getting older, but time just flies. Will I ever get over this fact? I’m thinking no. I’m pretty excited about this Instagram Recap this month though. It took me no time at all to build this table. I’m getting so much better at this HTML code thing. So proud. On to the recaping.

1. M with me on New Years Eve. Always so happy to spend time with her when she’s in town!
2. We celebrated N’s sister’s Birthday on three occasions. This was the first. She was hilariously drunk and almost got kicked out of Ranchman’s. We also found it funny to refer to one another as SIL all evening.
3. Game nights are some of my favourites and we discovered a new awesome game called Quelf.
4. Weekend coffee and record shopping dates. I just love Analog Coffee and record hunts and spending time with N.
5. Skating with N at our local rink. This needs to happen more!
6. Andy Warhol exhibit with my parents. Much smaller than expected, but pretty cool anyway. We hit up UNA Pizza & Wine afterwards. Delicious.
7. Starbucks Ladies at R’s 19th Birthday.
8. More January Birthdays. We hit two that night. I’m a giant when I wear my 5 inch heels.
9. We’ve still been eating mostly paleo (more on the primal side now). I’ve even attempted some gluten free baking lately and it’s turned out lovely. These biscuits are delicious!

Happy February, blog friends!

December in Instagram

Welcome to 2013! I say this every year, but I can’t believe it’s a new year already. The whole year flew by and December was no exception. So much happened this month that it was hard to choose just 9 photos to represent 30 days! (I obviously have a photo problem.)

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and enjoyed the New Years Festivities! 2012 was great! Here’s to another great year in 2013! xoxo

2. Las Vegas Half Marathon! So glad that both N and my dad decided to join me. It was an incredible run! Check one off the bucket list!
3. Getting dressed up, drinking margharitas, and celebrating finishing our Half Marathons in Vegas!
4. My coworkers decorated my desk for my return from Vegas. It is still decorated. It’s too awesome to take down.
5. We had a great time at my Company Christmas Party. Heather, Zevi, N, and I looking pretty beautiful.
6. First ski date of the season at Lake Louise. N is the best ski buddy!
7. Christmas Sweaters for a party night in Banff!
8. How many Adairs does it take to trim a tree? (3 + 1 de Boer!)
9. Christmas Day 5 km Run with N and my dad! It’s my Christmas Tradition.

November in Instagram

It’s pretty sad that my last post was October in Instagram. I really need to get better at this blogging thing. Now that we’re not running all the time, I should have more time for this. I hope. Is it just me, or do I say that all the time? Oh well, on to Instagram!

1. D and I being very matching and celebrating a couple of awesome November babies’ Birthdays!
2. I did a lot of running in the winter weather while training for Vegas. Typical evening run.
3. My parents got me new skis as a combined Birthday and Christmas present. I can’t wait to try them out!
4. Attending Stars and Metric. Nathan got me tickets for my Birthday. It was an amazing show.
5. Nathan and I decided to take on Paleo for a month. We haven’t been overly strict, but even so, it’s been great! This is one of my favourite go-to meals: Buffalo Chicken Lettuce Wraps.
6. I got new glasses. I feel like such a hipster, but I absolutely love them (and let’s be honest, I’m kind of a hipster wannabe.)
7. Nathan’s Christmas Party was at the end of November. We looked pretty great, I’d say.
8. After getting lost in the Plus 15 walkways at least twice, I think I’ve finally found my way. I get so disoriented in tunnels and passages.
9. Enjoying drinks at the airport before we flew out to Vegas with my parents on November 31 to run the Vegas Rock and Roll Half Marathon with my Dad. (More on that later!)

Obviously December hasn’t been much quieter than any other month so far this year since I’m uploading these to my blog 12 days into the month. I have so much to talk about and so many photos to edit! I better get to work! Less instagram, more DSLR.
